www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/lionel-messi-could-leave-barcelona-because-of-the-taxman-according-to-reports-in-spain-9877305.htmlThis, is perhaps the epitome of entitlement culture, footballers are talented, no denying it but how many people today actually wished they had the capabilities these people had? lots of people would kill to be able to earn this amount of cash for playing a game. I'm not against reward, I'm against blatant greed that sticks out like a sore thumb like when a sports player who refuses to pay tax are deluded enough to believe they are Gods gift, scientists contribute more to society than these people do and doctors don't get paid as much, name one doctor without a second job who is a billionaire.

I think the priorities of most people are way off from what brings us happiness. Football is not the highest good in the world.

There is also nothing wrong with enjoying a game, but I wonder how sports stars became worshipped they way they are.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with enjoying a game, but that makes them no more deserving than the other. Hard work or otherwise, football doesn't save peoples lives, they are getting paid for a passion and the thrill of competition after all, and even with a salary of 100k per year you could buy nice houses, sports cars and 1st class holidays overseas, a privilege people in the 3rd world never will have in a lifetime.

Part of our work in this world is to make things fairer. Unfortunately nature has fated some of us to be so socially Darwinian and reptilian, forever competing with others and gaining their pleasure from the discomfort and defeat of others; overcoming free will belief would do a lot to level the playing field not just in sports, but across the board.

I think for traditional purposes, the rules of sports should remain the same, but yes they do need to recognize that their successes and failures are not their own, but a byproduct of genetics and evolution. And one day we may have the technology to hack the brain of even the most unskilled person and give them the knowledge of MMA which would allow them to dominate everyone in a martial arts tournament.

Competition kind of loses its meaning when you no longer need to prove you are better than someone. People might have a lot more fun if they were not so focused on competition.

Yes, as we overcome the free will illusion, our competition becomes a lot like a game of dice where it is all about luck. We might still enjoy competing for the fun of it, but we wouldn't take either winning or losing so seriously.

There's such a thing as being too competitive though which can lead to arguments and discrimination, unfortunately people have a mistaken belief about so called skill, it was already meant to be from the get go. What is really happening is someone's passion for a sport is being rewarded, sure they may endure tough training but lots of people go to the gym, lift weights and never broke the Guinness world record, the same rule applies to strategic sports like basketball or hockey, doesn't sound like free will to me.

Yes, I gave it enough thought and reached the final conclusion myself, if I had a free will I could just will myself to have the highest amount of skill in any field be it sports, physics or chemistry, acting etc. Obviously there is hard work involved but there can only be one winner in each game.

The game of chess is a very deterministic one where predicting your opponents moves based on past experience is the key to winning. My skill at chess is not something I chose but is just a natural understanding of the reasons why I think they moved their pieces.

There are things that can help concentration though, I suppose when I start some serious MMO gaming in 2015 I'll supply myself with energy drinks, I get distracted easy so drowsiness just makes it worse and I end up making mistakes that I wouldn't have done otherwise if I weren't fatigued or low on blood sugar, you could say part of my skill was preparation. got christmas to worry about, family time, funny how non religious people celebrate the tradition also. lol
