John Searle, the 13th ranked post-1900 philosopher, says that our world overcoming the free will illusion "would be a bigger revolution in our thinking than Einstein, or Copernicus, or Newton, or Galileo, or Darwin -- it would alter our whole conception of our relation with the universe." This thread is about exploring why, exactly, he said that.

This thread is about exploring why, exactly, he said that. That it is, of course this would mean extra measures would have to be in place to deal with depression and suicidal thoughts. This changes everything, Beverly Goldberg said she doesn't want criminals killed or brutally harmed in any way and this will be a tough pill to swallow for free will believers and especially for people who have been victims of serious crimes against them or their loved ones.

I think that when people stop believing in free will, every part of their life changes. The biggest difference is we can't hate those who are different than us anymore when we know we could have been them if we had their nature and nurture.

Well I'm 28 so I am learning all about this, be a shame if people reached their 40s and didn't understand everything has a cause.

I am 27. We are both young and it is good that we understand causality now rather than harm more people because of a free will belief.

I want to understand people as well, if I recall Hitler wanted to become an artist but then he went insane. Sad story, his conditioning made him and his men do truly unspeakable things to millions of people, but he was still human and does not deserve to go to hell, there is no black and white, only the sane and the insane and you cannot rationally be blamed for being insane.

Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist. Einstein developed the theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics. Einstein's work is also known for its influence on the philosophy of science.
