Hi everyone,
I'd like for us to, over time, develop a community of like-minded members here who are intelligent enough to know that free will is an illusion, and who also understand that we can create a far more compassionate world by overcoming that mistaken belief.
For this thread, let's free ourselves to just have fun talking about whatever we want, and do so without the usual two-sentence rule.
'Trick and Jamie; thanks for being Chandler and my forum's first members!!!

Hey guys, I thought you might enjoy listening to this interview I did last Wednesday on a podcast called Walking Home. The interviewer, Michael Donovan, is excellent, and that caused me to be much better about my presentation. Here's the link - studiodonovan.com/listen/2014/11/24/30-george-ortega

You're welcome, I've learned important things from listening to your videos and it has helped keep me in a positive mood, due to not being able to change the past, it is sort of pointless to dwell on our mistakes and you're right. We should be caring and considerate to others still even though we do not have a free will, and that will gradually happen more if people become less obsessive over the idea of blaming each other.

Hi Chandler, Jamie and 'Trick, I'm sorry I've been away from the forum recently (holiday stuff). I just started a thread about Searle's quote to the effect that for free will to be acknowledged by our world as an illusion "would be a bigger revolution in our thinking than Einstein, or Copernicus, or Newton, or Galileo, or Darwin -- it would alter our whole conception of our relation with the universe" at geoandchanonfreewill.freeforums.net/thread/27/bigger-revolution-einsteinChandler, I hope you've begun to consider writing a book about why free will is an illusion! Jamie, I hope you're beginning to see how cool this whole thing is, and maybe would like to play a larger role in leading our world to this brand new causal consciousness. I hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving, and I look forward to resuming all of our explorations again very soon!

I have a lot of material written about free will belief and its harm. So far I can't get anyone to understand it, not even my mother.

Like the way Goku didn't want Krillin to kill Vegeta.

Like the way Goku didn't want Krillin to kill Vegeta. Or How Batman refuses to kill Joker no matter how much Robin wanted him to, because he doesn't want to be like him. - movie Under the Red Hood.

I have a lot of material written about free will belief and its harm. So far I can't get anyone to understand it, not even my mother. As with so many scientific achievements, half the battle in overcoming free will belief is to communicate to others why the achievement is relevant. I think our generation (I'm 57) has done a decent job at beginning this global dialogue, but it will be up to your generation to refine the message so that people really get it.

It's an uphill battle though, as you say 90% of the population have bought into the free will dogma so off the bat they already have outdated and wrong ideas on how to address the worlds problems, and of course their own.

It is likely that by the time Jamie and I are in our 50s, we will be living in a much less religious world. This of course means that there will be fewer people who even desire to defend free will.

We'll be dead after Mars is terraformed, but hopefully we'll live to see the day where radical changes were taken on globally to combat climate change: solar energy, wind turbine, fusion etc. And yes, there should be less vindictiveness.

I missed this thread. Thanks George. I'd love for other people to contribute to your forum. I've been busy trying to get important information out on my own blog for this topic. And even though we might not agree on every topic, I think it's very important that we come together as a community on this one. ;-)
